At the prayer meeting this week two things were mentioned which got me thinking, and if you’ll bear with me for 5 mins I’d like to expand on a little.

Firstly, Pastor Dave was praying around our kids work, at that point JAM in particular and mentioned (almost in passing) that he felt every Godslot we do was like a little lego brick of faith in those children’s lives, building towards a recognition of God for themselves. That brought something else to mind almost immediately (and if you’re odd like me, you’ll possibly already know where I’m going here).

Before I get to that, I need to mention what Carol (Mrs Pastor Dave) was praying about 5 mins later – she was mourning the temple of God (the church – people, not building) being in ruins while we as a nation all lived in our fancy houses. It may not be immediately obvious how these two link together, but bear with me and I’ll get to it.

You will probably (if you’re in the UK, anyway) be familiar with a man called James May. I’m a bit of a fan to be honest – mostly jealousy because he gets to do so many cool things and get paid for it but I digress. In one of his TV series called ‘Toy Stories’ he made a house entirely out of lego bricks. 3.2 million lego bricks to be precise. It took 1,000 helpers and an awful lot of head scratching and heartache to put together (it was also pulled down since legoland couldn’t afford to have it moved, but I’ll conveniently ignore that point – no metaphor is perfect).

What’s my point – well, that house was made from ‘breezeblocks’ each consisting of a whole bunch of lego bricks and put together by a volunteer. The church is made up of people, each built from hundreds or thousands of words from God, prayers and other ‘lego blocks of faith’. No one person could have made the entire house by themselves, but each helper worked on a few blocks, one piece of lego at a time. Soon enough, there was a whole house standing.

We may not see the big picture when we put on kids clubs or alpha meetings or come to prayer meetings, but every little thing we do is another lego block in someone’s journey to God. After enough pieces are added you get a complete christian, someone who loves God for themselves because they have realised something of who He is. That’s another part of the church restored and rebuilt, another block ready to go. The great thing about these blocks is they don’t just sit in the wall, they go off and start adding lego to other blocks.

If 1,000 people can build a house made of lego, just think what the whole church across the country, across the world can do if they just keep going, adding piece by piece to other people’s journey. Don’t let the fact you can’t see the house worry you, just keep building the blocks you’ve been assigned. God can see the final result – you just have to keep building. Most of our blocks in JAM aren’t finished yet – we may never see them finished. That’s OK – we just keep adding to them as we are given chance and eventually God will work them into what he wants them to be. If they’re in a different part of God’s house to us, that’s fine – we just keep on building until the house is done, or we’re called home for tea.

Final point – do you know where the house was build? in a vineyard, as it happens. I’m sure there’s a whole other metaphor in that somewhere, but I’ll leave that for another day.

Good Friday, we have a communion service at 10:30am.

There is no Mums & Toddlers group this week, being Good Friday. JAM & the Edge are both off during the school Easter Holidays.

Easter Sunday we have our celebration service also at 10:30. I’m reliably informed there will be egg shaped treats for the children.

Our Easter Sunday sermon will be entitled “Has anyone ever seen a creme chicken? If not, where do the eggs come from?”*

There won’t be an evening service on Easter Sunday.

We have a busy weekend this week (10-11th March). Aside from all our usual services on Sunday we have the third in our CVM/mens breakfast series on Saturday morning at 8:00 and the Souther Fire meeting at 7:30 at Wimborne Elim.

At the breakfast we will be looking at code III this week:

“I will unashamedly make Him known through my actions and words.”

Joe Sibley will be speaking, and I know he’s going to be good, so if you’re of the male persuasion come along, and get fed in both senses of the word.

Southern Fire is where the local Elim churches (us, Winton, Christchurch and Wimborne from memory) meet up to worship together and hear from God. We have the recording of Craig Cowley’s message here, from when we hosted the event and this week our very own Pastor Dave will be speaking at the Winborne Elim church at 7pm. Come along for what promises to be a great evening.

There will, as always, be fried stuff to eat, so come along and bring a friend. If you don’t have a friend then there’s still 5 days to make one, it will be good experience for you.

For those of you not in the know, it’s exactly the same as a jumble sale, but without having to scrabble around for £1.27 for that DVD that little Jonny absolutely must have for Christmas.

That’s right, we give everything away free. Why?

Because we believe in a generous God who wants to meet people at their point of need, whether it’s a physical, financial, mental or spiritual need. He displays this in so many ways to us as Christians, most of all in the giving of his only Son which we remember at Christmas, when we think about him coming as a baby and then at Easter, when we remember him dying for our sins on the cross and coming to life again so we also can have new life through Him.
We believe everything we have is a gift from God and we want to share what we have with those around us to show God’s love for them. Our aim as a church is ‘to serve the community for Christ’ and by giving things away this is just one way we hope to do that.because God gives us so many good things it really

I can tell you who was speaking on these, and when it was, but without listening to them all again I can’t tell you what they were about (I could do that, but realistically it’s not likely to happen – if anyone else wants to fill the blanks in, just drop me an message).

So here’s what I found:

David Butcher, yesterday morning (up to date stuff, you see)

Craig Cowley, Southern fire meeting Sat 19th – You may see more about this later, it’s well worth a listen.

Tim Robertson from Compassion, Sun 13th Nov

Tim Sharp, 30th Oct

Some bloke called Alex on 25th Sept

and finally going waaay back, Tim Sharp from 25th July

We believe that getting to know those who come and being able to relate to them properly is a key part of what we are doing. With only an hour and a quarter a week, that is getting harder as the ratio of adults to children has risen. With over 50 currently registered, there is obviously a demand for this sort of club, and from what we see each week the kids enjoy it immensely.

We will be loosing another helper after half term, as they move away to start a new job. We have taken the decision now before the club becomes less fun for everyone.

We will be running a waiting list for those who still want to come, and will regularly check to see who’s not been coming so that we can bring new people in as soon as possible. When we get more helpers we will look to increase the number of places.
