Elders Christmas Message

The Elders of the church would like to wish you all a happy Christmas. To make your season a little more festive, we present the following message (beleive it or not, this was done in one take)

Just a reminder, we have a Midnight Service starting at 11:30pm on Christmas Eve, and Services at 10:30 on Christmas day and New Years Day. There will be no evening service Christmas or New Years day.

Did someone ask what the date was? Why it’s Sunday the first of Advent of course.

Aaanyway, today saw the first of our Advent series headed ‘Our indescribable gift’ We will be running this series on some aspects of Jesus through the mornings until the 18th Dec. Still to come Jesus the prophet & priest (4th), Jesus the King (11th) and Jesus the answer (18th).

Other dates for your diary over the next month include:

Our carol service on 18th Dec at 5pm
Midnight service 11:30-12 on the 24th Dec
Christmas morning celebration on 25th Dec (10:30)
and New year celebration on 1st Jan (10:30).

(note there’s no evening service on 25th or 1st Jan)

New series starts tonight

A late post to let you know that our new evening series based on Rick Warrens ’40 days of community’ called “Better Together” starts tonight.

This will be video based teaching and will tie in with our housegroups during the week, but will be accessible as one off items for those who can’t make it every week.

This promises to be a great set of teachings so come along over the next 6 weeks and join us.

Sun am Harvest Series now on!

Our series running through the harvest season is now on. If you missed this Sunday we started with ‘A time to sow’ talking about the land (and mud eating shock from the pulpit).

Our series for the next few weeks on Sunday mornings (10:30) runs as follows:

1th Sept – Time to water (the rain)
18th Sept – Time to tend (the sun) with guest speaker Arvind Thomas
25th Sept – Time to wait (patience)
2nd Oct – Time to harvest (work) our Harvest Festival (Family Service)
9th Oct – Time to rest (relax)

Come along and celebrate the goodness of God’s provision with us this autumn!

Summer Schedule

Well, it’s August and while God doesn’t take a holiday, a lot of his workers do, so we trim our timetable down a little during the summer to allow people to recover from the rest of the year. Just in case anyone comes looking, here is our summer schedule for this year.

Sunday morning services will continue as usual (10:30) – there is no Splash/Bubbles for the kids, but we have something ‘easy preparation’ for them (OK, so it’s a Story Keepers DVD and some colouring/puzzles!) so they don’t have to sit through the adult sermon.
There will be no evening services during August.
Wed prayer meetings will continue as usual.
Mums & Toddlers will continue on a Friday morning except 26th Aug and 2nd Sept.
JAM and the Edge on Friday have finished until 9th Sept. If you want to book someone in for JAM next year (expanding the age range again means we may be too full to just take anyone who turns up on the night) please use the contact form.

Normality resumes

Also, happy star wars day.

After the manic running about of Easter and weddings and bank holidays, everything has to go back to normal eventually (unfortunately).

So Prayer meeting is on tonight (wed), not that that actually stopped. Mums & Toddlers, JAM and the Edge are all back on Friday. Services are (at least as far as I know) all back to normal on Sunday as well.

Look forward to seeing you all then.

World falling apart?

It’s been a nasty few weeks out there in the world: Earthquakes, Tsunami, civil wars and unrest and today I read about churches being blown up and Christians attacked in Egypt. That’s all out there in the wide world, but even in our local area we have people losing their jobs, not able to find work and worried about feeding their families. The Bournemouth food bank run by Vineyard say they’ve given out 173kg of food parcels on wed alone last week.

It can all leave you feeling like there’s nothing you can do and wondering whether there’s any sense in the world at all. As Christians we believe that God made the world, and is still in charge, but he’s given us the job of caring for it and of caring for each other. We don’t have the answer to why these things happen, but Jesus doesn’t ask us to understand why, he asks us to be his hands in the world until he comes back and fixes the problems permanently.

With so many worthy causes it can be difficult to see how we can be of any help at all. There’s not enough money or time in our hands to fix these problems, but that’s not a reason to do nothing. God is not expecting us to fix the world – even Jesus didn’t fix all the problems around him when he was here, he told us ‘you will always have the poor with you’. He focussed on spreading God’s love and kindness to those around him, and then told us to go and do likewise.

So you can’t fix everything… Pick something you care about and focus on that. Fix something. Help someone. Do what you can, and do it today.

Be a light for Jesus in a darkening world.

Summer over

Wow, looking at the website you’d think that was the quickest summer ever. For anyone under 18, it probably felt like it too. I remember the days…

Anyway, Sun 5th marks the last week of our summer schedule. After that we’ll be back to everything as usual I think.

JAM and The Edge restart on 10th, and the evening services restart on the 12th. Prayer meetings and Mums & Toddlers never stopped.

Oh yes, and the new toilets are open!

We’re not quite finished with some bits of the new building, like the car park and offices. We have plenty to finish off, but we’ll announce the date of the dedication and celebration soon. Probably a Sat at the end of the month, but we have to let Dave recover from the wedding before we sort that out.
